To calculate your volunteer hours, add the following:
Total time spent tutoring
1 hour per quiz passed (including UPchieve 101). See your quiz pass count in the dashboard’s 'Impact Summary' table.
Elapsed Availability Hours: The availability hours you select each week turn into elapsed availability hours once the week ends. For example, if you select 10 hours this week, they become elapsed hours next Monday.
Elapsed availability hours are earned while you tutor. If you didn’t tutor during the week, you won’t get credit for elapsed availability hours
You earn up to 10 elapsed hours for every 1 hour of tutoring, but you can’t earn more than the number of hours you originally selected.
Example 1:
You selected 100 hours of availability. This makes you eligible for 10 elapsed availability hours.
You tutored for 2 hours, which could earn up to 20 elapsed hours, but you’re only eligible for 10.
Total hours for the week: 2 hours of tutoring + 10 elapsed availability hours = 12 hours
Example 2:
You selected 50 hours of availability. This makes you eligible for 5 elapsed availability hours.
You tutored for 2 hours, which could earn up to 20 elapsed hours, but you’re only eligible for 5.
Total hours for the week: 2 hours of tutoring + 5 elapsed availability hours = 7 hours
1 hour per coach meeting attended. Attend our optional coach meeting (1st Wednesday of every month, 9 PM ET) and earn 1 volunteer hour. This hour isn’t in your 'Impact Summary,' so please track it and send a screenshot of your registration to confirm.

Calculate how many hours you can count towards the PVSA.
We only count active tutoring hours, 1 hour per quiz passed (including the UPchieve 101 quiz), and 1 hour per monthly coach meeting attended) due to the award's national recognition.
Elapsed availability will not be counted for the PVSA.
Once you have completed the minimum number of hours, fill out this form to submit your request for an award.
12 months start from when you had your first session.
Once you request your PVSA award, your hours start fresh the next day. Past hours won’t count for next year’s request.
All volunteer hours must be completed at UPchieve to request an award. You cannot request hours from other orgs.
Processing takes 6 to 8 weeks.
