How can I request a tutoring session?

  • You can request a session from your dashboard. Simply select a subject, fill out the pre-session form, and click Start a chat.

How long are the sessions?

  • Sessions can be as long as you need. Just ask your coach at the beginning if they can stay for the time you need. If not, you can start with them and switch to another coach later.

Is there any limit to the number of sessions I can request?

  • No! We offer unlimited tutoring.

Is there audio or video?

  • UPchieve does not use audio or video for student safety and preference. For STEM tutoring, you'll use a whiteboard and text chat. For college counseling and humanities, you'll use a collaborative document editor.

Can I use Zoom?

  • NO. Communicate with your coach directly on UPchieve to keep things secure. No Zoom, email, text, or calls are allowed.

How do I upload or share images?

  • Click on the image upload button in the toolbar.

  • Confused about a button? Hover your mouse over it - a little box will pop up telling you its name!

Can I share a Google doc or other links with my coach?

  • For assignments, try pasting them directly into the chat or using the whiteboard/document editor.

  • If pasting doesn't work, share links instead. But remember, keep all communication on UPchieve and avoid links that require email access (sharing emails isn't allowed).

How do I erase things on the whiteboard?

Here are a few ways to delete or erase items on the whiteboard:

  • Delete specific items: Use the 'Pick' tool, click the item you want to delete, then press delete on your keyboard or click the red trash can icon that appears.

  • Erase everything: Click the eraser tool (it looks like a trash can) to clear the whole whiteboard.

    • If you accidentally click on the trash icon and delete all the contents of the whiteboard, you can undo it by clicking the 'Undo' icon which looks like an arrow pointing left

  • Hide items: Use the eraser icon to drag a white marker over the parts you want to hide.

Tip: Hover over any button to see what it's called! Let me know if you have questions.

Avoid clicking the ‘Reset whiteboard’ icon—it will erase everything, and you can't undo it.

Can I review a session after it has ended?

  • Yes! Students can check out the session history to review all past sessions.

I liked working with my coach. Can I schedule another session and work with them again?

  • While you can't directly schedule with the same coach, there are ways to increase your chances of working with them again:

    1. Ask your coach directly: If you know when you'd like to meet again, politely ask your coach if they're available at that time.

    2. Favorite your coach: After your session, there's a feedback form where you can "favorite" your coach. This lets UPchieve know you'd like to work with them again if they're available for your next request.

    Important Reminders:

    • No emailing coaches: To protect everyone's safety, contacting coaches directly outside the UPchieve platform is not allowed.


    See the below Session Feedback form where you can favorite a coach. Select Yes, under "Would you like to favorite your coach?"

I don't remember my password
