After completing a session on UPchieve, Coaches and students can send 1:1 direct messages (DMs) to each other.
These asynchronous messages can include additional resources, words of encouragement, or even a follow up on tests and homework.
Both Coaches and students can start a conversation after a session.
Please note, you can only send or receive DMs to/from students you’ve worked with previously.
Each message or reply triggers an email notification to the recipient
Message activity is also shown in the left-hand navigation under Session History.
All messages are reviewed by staff and AI to help maintain a safe and respectful environment.
Go to Session History
Find the session and student you want to message, then click Session Recap
At the bottom of Session Chat, type your message
The student will receive a notification by email (unless the school district blocks UPchieve’s emails) and will also see a new message indicator in Session History.
When they reply, you’ll receive an email and in-app notification and can continue the conversation. You can also filter Session History to show only sessions with unread messages, making it easy to find new conversations.

For more complex questions or urgent assistance, encourage students to request a new session.
You can also use DMs to schedule follow-up sessions with students. Remember: It’s crucial to be punctual and reliable for these sessions as students depend on you and can be discouraged if this session is missed.
By allowing coaches to message students directly, we aim to inspire continued use of UPchieve, foster a stronger sense of community, and elevate the quality of tutoring services. We believe that these interactions will encourage students to continue using UPchieve in their academic journey.
